Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

October might be known for its spooky critters and ghoulish goblins, but the rangers are here to set the story straight with a series of programs highlighting animals and items that some folks perceive as scary. Together we'll unravel the mysteries of these creatures to gain a fresh perspective and newfound appreciation.

October 3: Skull Hike-easy, .4 mile hike on paved/gravel surface

October 10: Snakes- Tessst your snake knowledge

October 17: Owls- Owl pellet dissection

October 24: Creepy Crawlers- Discover your new 6 and 8 legged best friends-Meets at Shelter 2

October 31: Bats - Celebrate Bat Week (https://batweek.org)

Programs are designed to complement Virginia Standards of Learning and geared towards all ages and abilities
