Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Great American Campout

June 22, 2019. 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

For this event we are going to focus some programming on campfire related activities, because what is more universal to camping out than a campfire? We hope you will join our interpretive staff and enjoy the programming. Please keep in mind that we do have regular campsites, group campsites, horse campsites, and cabins available to rent to facilitate your Great American Campout Experience.

6 p.m.

Our staff will show you a few different styles of fire building and tell you what they are used for, then the group will split into teams to see who can complete the Fairy Stone Campfire Challenge the fastest.

7 p.m.

After the fire building demonstration/competition we will have a campfire to roast marshmallows and make s'mores . Enjoy the s'mores, fellowship, and a few campfire games.
