Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Spring Wildlife Tram Tour

April 2, 2021. 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Take a scenic drive through Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge and False Cape State Park! Spot wildlife from the Blue Goose Tram and learn the history of this spectacular area. Participants can be dropped off at the visitor center at False Cape and picked up at the end of the tour, or they can continue with the tram to the Wash Woods church and cemetery site for a guided hike (1 mile round trip).

From April 1-Memorial Day, the tram tour runs on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Cost: $8 per person, reservations are required. Make reservations by calling the park at (757) 426-7128.

To protect the safety of participants and staff, the following protocols will be enforced: 1) Each tour will be limited to 9 participants. 2) Participants MUST wear a face covering the entire time they are riding on the tram. 3) Participants must pre-pay for the tour. 4) Participants cannot attend the tour if they have any of the following symptoms: cough, shortness of breath, fever, chills, muscle pain, sore throat, or new loss of taste or smell.
