Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

National Kids to Parks Day

National Kids to Parks Day was created to encourage kids and their families to visit one of America's national, state or local parks and promote environmental stewardship and healthy outdoor activity. 11 a.m. - Fish Printing: Say you catch a huge, beautiful, rainbow trout, but you don't have a camera? What do you do? How to record this catch? Learn about a Japanese technique called gyo-taku and practice making your own fish prints.

12:30 p.m. - Who Made Those Tracks: If you see an animal track while out walking, won't you want to be able to know what type it is? Learn the importance of tracks as well as make your own plaster cast of the critter track of your choice. Bring $3 for every track you plan to make.

2 p.m. Geocaching 101: Hidden treasure; a global phenomenon; harnessing the power of a multi-billion dollar satellite system. Sounds like an exciting, action-packed movie plot, right? Actually it's all in a day's work for a Geocacher.

3:30 History Walk: Meet at Camp Malone Shelter to take a short walk with a park ranger and learn about the history of Douthat. You will see some of Douthat's oldest structures along the way.
