In celebration of National Public Lands Day, False Cape State park will be hosting a day of trail maintenance.

Douthat State Park was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the period of 1933-1936 to protect Virginia's natural resources and to provide a place for families to experience and enjoy those resources well into the future - please join us in our work to continue that mission.

National Public Lands Day is the nation's largest, single‐day volunteer effort for public lands and works to connect people to public lands in their community, inspire environmental stewardship, and encourage use of public lands for education, recreation, and general health.

In honor of National Public Lands Day, we invite you to join our Stewardship Saturday crew as we unite efforts to re-vitalize the Red Knob Overlook on Blue Ridge Trail.

How do you celebrate National Public Lands Day?

Volunteers Wanted!

What a better way to celebrate National Public Lands Day than doing something for our public lands!   Volunteers can participate in a shoreline cleanup, either on foot or by taking canoes out to access areas we can't get to on foot.  Regular rules apply for boats going out.  We will have a few grabbers, lots of bags and gloves (though it is recommended to bring your own).  This is a great opportunity to come as a family, or group, to do something good.   Please plan to wear sturdy shoes that can get wet, and don't forget to bring a bottle of water and lots of bug repellent.     When you arrive, come to the visitor center to sign in.   We ask that you let us know you are joining us by calling 703.339.2385 and signing up.  That way we will know how many to prepare for.  Walk ins are welcome as well.  Park entrance fee is waived on this day!

National & Virginia Public Lands Day is a great opportunity for volunteers to help us protect some of our favorite natural resources.  This year, we will participate in the Clean Virginia Waterways shoreline clean up removing litter from our popular beach and waterway trail areas.  Bring closed toed shoes, gloves, and other clothing you don't mind getting dirty.  Contact our office for more volunteer information.

Come celebrate National Public Lands Day and the great Eastern Shore of Virginia with Kiptopeke State Park at our Outdoor Exploration Day on September 24th from 10 am to 3 pm.  Outdoor Exploration Day is committed to providing opportunities for visitors to experience and learn about Virginia’s Eastern Shore and the Chesapeake Bay.  Through education, hands-on demonstrations and outdoor recreation, visitors will further their appreciation of these resources.  This event is free, family friendly and will feature wildlife exhibits, educational games and activities, arts & crafts, and so much more.

This no parking fee day is set aside to highlight state as well as national public lands.

In celebration of National Public Lands Day, Clinch River State Park will be collaborating and hosting a day service project with the Clinch River Valley Program of the Nature Conservancy.

Get your hands dirty as we work to mitigate invasive species and improve the natural environment along our valley trails.

In honor of National Public Lands Day, Wilderness Road State Park will host a guided hike around the Indian Ridge Trail Loop to view and discuss the effects of the Emerald Ash Borer on the landscape, and what we are doing to help our Ash Trees.
