African Americans have been a part of the Chesapeake Bay's seafood industry since the Colonial era from pickers and shuckers to boat captains.  Immerse yourself in the world of free and enslaved "black jack" watermen and independent working waterfronts from their heydays to declines.  Discover how some continue to keep this important facet of black history alive.  Reservations required.

This hike honors the shared history of African, European, and Native Americans who made their homes along the Mattaponi, Pamunkey, and York Rivers.  We will stop at certain points along the trails, in particular those that highlight the  history of Taskinas Plantation (the colonial name for where our park is located) and other areas of historic significance.  Of course, if something unique in the natural world captures our attention, we will share about that as well.

Join us for a one-mile hike that explores Virginia's unique and diverse native tree species.

Treat mom to an adventure on land and sea.  We will paddle the York River to the Fossil Beach.  Upon arrival, we will search for prehistoric relics and return.   Reservations and rental fees are to be paid in advance.  Mom paddles free with a paying paddler.  Canoes $9/person or $6/person (family of 4+), solo kayak $16/person, tandem kayak $11/person.
