Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

National Kids to Parks Day - Discover Pocahontas State Park

Celebrate National Kids to Parks Day by discovering more about Pocahontas State Park. Kids of all ages will have space to play and explore what makes the park unique. Start in the Civilian Conservation Corps Museum to learn how the park became a park and then go out back to our field station to investigate the park's landscape and geology, make nature observations and create a keepsake of the natural world.

Join the Central Virginia Orienteering Club  to navigate around Beaver Lake with a map and compass.

Program is suitable for all ages and abilities and will incorporate STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) elements.

Additional support, including a free hot dog lunch, is provided by the Friends of Pocahontas State Park.
