Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Curious about what (or whooo!) comes out after the sun sets? Join park rangers for a nighttime nature walk at Skyline Trail and learn about nocturnal animals, the stars, and why dark skies are essential. The hike covers about 1.5 miles, involves going up and down a large hill, and may not be suitable for all hikers.

- Call (540) 254-0795 to make your reservation; right now, we can only accept cash at the time of the program.

- Cost is $5 per adult and $2 per child. Maximum 20 participants.

- Meet rangers at the Skyline Trailhead before the program start time.

- Flashlights are encouraged for walking around before the program, but when the program starts rangers will lend groups red light flashlights that are less disruptive to wildlife and your night vision.
