Amendment to Occoneechee State Park master plan to be discussed
RICHMOND — A public meeting to discuss an amendment to the 2011 Occoneechee State Park master plan will be held Oct. 29, 6 p.m., at the Clarksville Community Center, 102 Willow Drive, Clarksville.
Staff from the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation will provide an overview of the proposed facilities and gather feedback from meeting attendees.
The amendment proposes the relocation of the sprayground area proposed in the 2011 plan. To reduce costs, the sprayground would be built closer to existing utilities and infrastructure. The proposed area includes a sprayground, comfort station, playgrounds, picnic shelter and parking.
Future phases to the master plan include the construction of a conference center, cabins, campground, amphitheater and an expanded trail system.
A master plan guides development for each Virginia state park. Amending a plan is a public process, and public meetings are held when major changes are considered.
The 2,695-acre property is 1.5 miles east of Clarksville, in Mecklenburg County, on the north shore of Buggs Island Lake, also known as the John H. Kerr Reservoir.
