Revised master plan for Widewater State Park to be discussed Aug. 27
RICHMOND — A public meeting to discuss development of facilities at Widewater State Park will be Aug. 27, 6 p.m., at the Hilldrup Moving and Storage Training Facility, 4022 Jefferson Davis Highway, Stafford.
Staff from the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation will provide an overview of the proposed facilities and gather feedback from meeting attendees.
Phase I of the park’s master plan calls for construction of:
- A day-use area overlooking the Potomac with parking, restrooms, playground and picnic shelters.
- A fishing pier and structures for bank fishing.
- Canoe launches, landings and campsites.
- A boat launch on Aquia Creek.
- Trails.
Future phases to the master plan include the construction of a visitor center, environmental education center, campground, cabins and expanded trail system.
A master plan guides development for each Virginia state park. Revising a plan is a public process, and public meetings are held when major changes are considered.
The 1,100-acre property is in Stafford County on the peninsula created by the confluence of Aquia Creek and the Potomac River.
