Douthat State Park to host 14th Annual Douthat Lake Run Car Show May 19-20

(RICHMOND, VA) - The 14th Annual Douthat Lake Run Car Show at Douthat State Park is Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20.

Admission to the car show is free for the general public, but the normal $3 parking fee applies. Visitors will have special parking areas, where a shuttle will transport them directly to the car show in the beach complex area.

Show registration until May 19 is $13 per vehicle for both days. Registration the day of the show is $15 per vehicle.

The first 175 registered cars will receive a commemorative car show dash plaque.

To register, call 540-862-8100, or visit: www.douthatspeed.org/pdf/2012_Car_Show_Registration_Form.pdf

The event begins at noon Saturday. Show participants should check in at the main office to receive a registration number and a goody bag. Two $50 bills will be randomly placed in two of the registration goody bags. Sunday registration continues at noon.

After check-in, drivers can stop by the rinse station before heading up to the beach area to show their classic car.

This year's car show includes a BBQ rib cook-off on Saturday. There is no registration fee for the cook-off, and both car show participants and the general public can compete.

Each team of one to four people is responsible for providing the necessary materials for their dish. All entries must be cooked on location over a fire of wood, charcoal or gas. Setup begins at 8 a.m., and cooking begins at 9 a.m. Call the park office at 540-862-8114 for cook-off rules.

Other activities include the Big Country 101 Prize Wheel, a 50/50 drawing, music, food vendors and custom T-shirts from Cewinn Graphics.

The car show is sponsored by Highlands Community Bank, Honda Nissan of Covington, Pence Competition and JENFAB Inc.

The award-winning Virginia State Parks are managed by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation.
