New cabins at Natural Tunnel State Park available Oct. 1
~Reservations can be made now~

DUFFIELD, VA – Natural Tunnel State Park in Scott County Virginia is the site of the Virginia State Park system’s newest overnight cabins. Reservations can be made now for the 10 cabins for rentals starting Oct. 1. The park will host an open house to show off the new cabins Oct. 6.

Natural Tunnel’s cabins include seven two-bedroom cabins, two three-bedroom cabins and a family lodge with six bedrooms. One of each type cabin is accessible to the disabled. Each cabin also features a full kitchen, living area with fireplace and bathrooms. Cabins can be rented for a minimum of two nights, except during prime season from Memorial Day to Labor Day weekends when they are rented by the week. Reservations can be made by calling 1-800-933-PARK or online at www.virginiastateparks.gov.

“These new cabins complement the new campground opened in May as well as the park’s other attractions,” said Natural Tunnel State Park Manager Craig Seaver. “A stay in these new overnight accommodations will allow our guests to enjoy all the park has to offer and gives them time to visit and enjoy the many regional attractions in our area.”

The Scott County Chamber of Commerce and Scott County Economic Development Authority are sponsoring an open house for the new cabins Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. The general public is invited. Several cabins and the family lodge will be open for visitors to explore.

Natural Tunnel becomes the eighteenth Virginia State Park to offer cabin or cottage rentals. Funds to develop the cabins came for the 2002 State Parks and Natural Areas General Obligation Bond.

“Housekeeping cabins were a major attraction when the original six Virginia State Parks opened nearly 75 years ago,” said Joe Elton, state parks director with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation. “With today’s cabins we have tried to match the craftsmanship of those original cabins built by the men of the Civilian Conservation Corps.” The Virginia State Parks system now has more than 251 cabins statewide.

For more information on cabins and all the offerings of Natural Tunnel and the rest of Virginia’s award winning state parks visit online at www.virginiastateparks.gov or call toll-free 1-800-933-PARK (7275).
