New River Trail Public Meeting Scheduled for Sept. 14

RICHMOND — The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation will hold a public meeting Wednesday, Sept. 14, to present the draft master plan update for New River Trail State Park. The meeting will be 5:30-7:30 p.m., at Wytheville Community College, Bland Hall, Room 104, 1000 E. Main St., Wytheville.

Proposed developments in the master plan will be discussed at the meeting, and attendees will have the opportunity to provide feedback. A master plan is written for each state park and serves a guide for development for approximately 20 years. Plans are reviewed every five years.

New River Trail State Park spans the counties of Carroll, Grayson, Pulaski and Wythe. The 765-acre park parallels 39 miles of the New River. It features two large tunnels, three major bridges and nearly 30 smaller tunnels and bridges.

For more information, contact DCR Trails Coordinator Jennifer Wampler at 804-786-9240 or jennifer.wampler@dcr.virginia.gov. Written comments should be faxed to 804-371-7899 or mailed to: Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, Attn: Jennifer Wampler, 203 Governor St., Suite 326, Richmond, VA 23219.
