Wind-Tidal Tupelo - Bald Cypress Swamp - CEGL004651
A young stand of bald cypress (Taxodium distichum) over black needlerush (Juncus roemerianus) and other marsh herbs. Wind-tidal swamps occur on peat that is indistinguishable from marsh peat, and probably replaced – and continue to replace – marshes in a long-term successional process. Along a tributary of the Northwest River, just north of the North Carolina line, City of Chesapeake. © DCR-DNH, Gary P. Fleming
