Low Salt Marsh (Salt Panne Type) - CEGL006586

An expansive  low salt marsh of saltmarsh cordgrass (Spartina alternifolia) and salt grass (Distichlis spicata) extends from an upland edge towards Simoneaston Bay east of Wattsville in Accomack County.  A narrow band of less salty marsh dominated by Olney threesquare (Schoenoplectus americanus, in foreground) occurs between the upland and low marsh.  Wallops Island National Wildlife Refuge.
