Young red spruce (Picea rubens) is becoming re-established in many high-elevation areas of the Balsam Mountains, where the original forests were clearcut and burned in the early part of the 20th century.  Elev. 5000 ft., Haw Orchard Mountain, Grayson Highlands State Park, Grayson County.
