Virginia's only stand of Fraser Fir Forest occupies the summit and upper slopes of Mount Rogers, near the highest elevation (5729 ft) in the state.  Mountain wood fern (Dryopteris campyloptera) dominates the herb layer.  Lewis Fork Wilderness Area, Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, George Washington & Jefferson National Forests.
