Southern Appalachian Red Spruce Forest (Evergreen Shrub Type) – CEGL007130
Dense thickets of great rhododendron (Rhododendron maximum) hide numerous wet logs, boulders, and rock crevices on this steep north slope, making this type of red spruce forest treacherous and nearly impenetrable.  Lewis Fork Wilderness, Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, George Washington & Jefferson National Forests.
