Southern Appalachian Red Spruce Forest (Evergreen Shrub Type) – CEGL007130
A very rare type of red spruce forest, with a dense understory of great rhododendron (Rhododendron maximum), is found on the rocky north slope of Mount Rogers at 5200 ft elevation (Smyth County).  Lewis Fork Wilderness Area, Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, George Washington & Jefferson National Forests.
