Loblolly Pine / Scrub Oak Sandhill Woodland

Prior to their acquisition by the state, the sandhill woodlands of Antioch Pines State Natural Area Preserve had been either destroyed or severely fire-suppressed, and longleaf pine had been nearly eliminated from the site.  Following years of prescribed burning, restoration of the woodland and native sandhill species such as sundial lupine (Lupinus perennis) is well underway.
