Piedmont / Central Appalachian Sand Bar / River Shore (Low Herbs Type) – CEGL006483

A remarkable, albeit not entirely "natural," occurrence of the low-herbs type of depositional bar community in the drawn-down upper portion of the Carvins Cove reservoir north of Roanoke in Botetourt County.  This community likely existed here originally in small patches along Carvins Creek, but has expanded greatly following impoundment of the creek for the reservoir.
