Piedmont / Central Appalachian Sand Bar / River Shore (Low Herbs Type) – CEGL006483

This recently exposed silt bar is just beginning to develop its community of low, mostly annual herbs.  A narrow patch of common water-willow (Justicia americana) occupies the bouldery shore of the river to the left. Along the Potomac River at Scotts Run Nature Preserve, Fairfax County.
