An extensive sand bar/flat dominated by low annuals and seedlings of late thoroughwort (Eupatorium serotinum).  If this bar remains exposed long enough, it will eventually support a community of tall, perennial herbs. Along the Potomac River at Madeira School, downstream from Mather Gorge, Fairfax county.
