Piedmont / Central Appalachian Sand Bar / River Shore (Tall Herbs Type) – CEGL006481
On higher more stable riverside bars, exposure and vegetation development occurs earlier in the summer.  The low, annual vegetation appears first, but is quickly overtopped and replaced by a community of tall, mostly perennial herbs such as late thoroughwort (Eupatorium serotinum, with white flowers).  Potomac River shore, Riverbend Park, Fairfax County.
