Piedmont / Central Appalachian Bedrock Floodplain Scour Woodland – CEGL006476
The Piedmont / Central Appalachian Bedrock Floodplain Scour Woodland occurs on high-gradient river shores where bedrock exposures extend onto the channel shelf.  This stand occurs at a rocky knickpoint along the Potomac River in Riverbend Park (Fairfax County).  The large clonal sedge behind the rock is Emory's sedge (Carex emoryi).  Note the huge, flood-transported log wedged between two trees in the upper left corner of the photo.
