Piedmont / Central Appalachian Sycamore - River Birch Scour Woodland – CEGL003896

The Piedmont / Central Appalachian Sycamore - River Birch Scour Woodland is widespread on very bouldery shores of Piedmont and mountain rivers and large streams that flood several times a year.  Its physiognomy varies from a shrubland to an open forest, with the trees typically flood-trained with multiple adventitious sprouts.  This stand is on the Potomac River shore at the north end of Great Falls Park, Fairfax County.
