Water-Willow Rocky Bar and Shore – CEGL004286
Nearly monospecific colonies of water-willow (Justicia americana) are common on bouldery bars and shores of large streams and rivers throughout the Virginia mountains and Piedmont.  This tough-rooted perennial is exceptionally well adapted to rocky substrates that are inundated from 50 to 100% of the year. This stand is on the shore of the Shenandoah River at Shenandoah University's Cool Spring Campus in Clarke County.
