Potomac Gorge Riverside Outcrop Barren – CEGL006491

A large riverside outcrop barren on a bedrock terrace along the Potomac River at Madeira School, Fairfax County.  Extremely xeric growing conditions, as well as periodic catastrophic flooding, maintains the sparse condition of the vegetation and prevents trees from becoming established.
