Appalachian Rich Cove Forest (Tuliptree - Mixed Hardwoods Type) – CEGL007710

Very fertile soils weathered from Catoctin metabasalt in the G. Richard Thompson State Wildlife Management Area (Fauquier County) support an outstanding rich cove forest that extends all the way to the summit of the Blue Ridge.  Here, Dutchman's-breeches (Dicentra cucullaria) dominate the early spring aspect.
