A steep, rocky, northwest-facing slope along the Blue Ridge Parkway near the Tye River Gap (Rockbridge County) supports an old-age stand of the Central Appalachian Rich Cove Forest (Sugar Maple - Basswood Type) community, with dominant sugar maples (Acer saccharum) up to about 90 cm DBH.
