Pine-oak/heath woodlands are rare in the western Piedmont, where they are confined to monadnocks underlain by acidic rocks.  This stand is on cliffs of High Point Mountain in the Bull Run Mountains, Fauquier County.  Bull Run Mountains State Natural Area Preserve.
