Central Appalachian Pine - Oak / Heath Woodland – CEGL004996
Open woodland of pitch pine (Pinus rigida) and chestnut oak (Quercus montana), with a dense shrub layer of bear oak (Quercus ilicifolia) and black huckleberry (Gaylussacia baccata).  The woodland structure has been enhanced with prescribed burning by the U.S. Forest Service.  Near Scothorn Gap in the Massanutten Mountains, Page County.  Lee Ranger District, George Washington & Jefferson National Forests.
