Green ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica) can sometimes become established in upland depression swamps following cutting or other disturbances that remove the dominant oaks; it is ordinarily a minor associate in the type.  This stand is in Appomattox Court House National Historical Park, Appomattox County.
