Piedmont / Central Appalachian Floodplain Swamp (Pin Oak - Swamp White Oak Type) – CEGL006497
The pin oak-swamp white oak floodplain swamp community is most common on the broad floodplains of the northern Virginia Triassic (Culpeper) Basin, which often have impervious clay soils and intricate microtopography.  Here, a large stand of wood reed grass (Cinna arundinacea) is beginning to suffer drought stress in a backswamp that has been drawn down and dry for many weeks. Bull Run floodplain, Manassas National Battlefield Park, Prince William County.
