Piedmont / Central Appalachian High Terrace Floodplain Forest – CEGL006459
The Piedmont / Central Appalachian High Terrace Floodplain Forest is a state-rare community type that occupies the highest, rarely overflowed floodplain terraces along large streams and rivers in the northern part of the state.  It is characterized by having sugar maple (Acer saccharum) and other upland trees common in the overstory, along with a rich herb layer like that of the more common rich floodplain forest type.  This stand occurs along Back Creek near DeHaven in Frederick County.
