Piedmont / Central Appalachian Rich Floodplain Forest – CEGL004073
The Piedmont/Central Appalachian Rich Floodplain Forest occupies high, well-drained floodplain terraces that flood much less frequently than those occupied by the silver maple forests. Soils are deep and rich from deposition of fertile alluvial deposits, supporting a lush spring flora of Virginia bluebells (Mertensia virginica) and other nutrient-demanding forbs.
