Piedmont / Central Appalachian Silver Maple Forest – CEGL006217

Early wild rye (Elymus macgregorii) emergent in a silver maple (Acer saccharinum) forest on the banks of the James River in Buckingham County. This grass is abundant in many large-river floodplain forests throughout the Piedmont and mountains, maturing in late May and early June.  James River State Park.
