Early spring view of a Potomac River Bedrock Terrace Hardpan Forest in Mather Gorge, in Great Falls Park, Fairfax County.  This type is unusual in being subject to catastrophic floods every 30 to 85 years on average, but the habitat is generally rather xeric and the vegetation is classified as an upland forest.
