Potomac River Bedrock Terrace Hardpan Forest – CEGL006209
The Potomac River Bedrock Terrace Hardpan Forest is endemic to strath terraces of the Potomac Gorge west of Washington, D.C. in Virginia and Maryland.  It is structurally and compositionally similar to other Piedmont hardpan forests but in this type, shallow bedrock rather than a clay subsoil acts as the "hardpan."  This stand occurs at Madeira School, downstream from Mather Gorge, Fairfax County.
