View of the Kerr Reservoir from one of the open Piedmont Hardpan Forests on dry, subtending slopes underlain by intrusive mafic rocks.  Eastern needlegrass (Piptochaetium avenaceum) forms dense colonies here under an open stand of pignut hickories (Carya glabra).  Bluestone Wildlife Management Area, John H.
