Southern Piedmont Hardpan Forest - CEGL003714

South-facing, convex slopes bordering the impounded Roanoke River (Kerr Reservoir) in western Mecklenburg County support dry, open, grassy woodlands of post oak (Quercus stellata), hickories, and eastern redcedar (Juniperus virginiana).  The underlying bedrock is a dark, mafic intrusion in the granitic formation.  Bluestone Wildlife Management Area, John H.
