Southern Piedmont Hardpan Forest – CEGL003714

Flatwoods stand of Southern Piedmont Hardpan Forest on Triassic conglomerate, northeast of Trents Mill in Cumberland County.  The overstory is composed largely of post oak (Quercus stellata), pignut hickory (Carya glabra), and white ash (Fraxinus americana); southern white-tinged sedge (Carex albicans var. australis) dominates the herb layer.  Cumberland State Forest.
