Piedmont Granitic Flatrock – CEGL003857
A shallowly flooded "pothole" on the upper portion of the Fine Creek Mills granitic flatrock in Powhatan County.  Roundleaf fameflower (Phemeranthus teretifolius) grows in dense colonies along the edges of the pool.  Wetland herbs found in pools on this flatrock include red-root flatsedge (Cyperus erythrorhizos), Engelmann spikerush (Eleocharis engelmannii), kidneyleaf mud plantain (Heteranthera reniformis), and brownish beaksedge (Rhynchospora capitellata).
