Piedmont Granitic Flatrock – CEGL003857
A small depression filled with fine organic matter and moss mats, hosts an "island" of low vascular plants on an otherwise sparsely vegetated granitic flatrock along Fine Creek in Powhatan County.  The dense patch consists of pineweed (Hypericum gentianoides), common buttonweed (Hexasepalum teres), slender dayflower (Commelina erecta), roundleaf fameflower (Phemeranthus teretifolius), eastern prickly-pear (Opuntia humifusa), and Appalachian sandwort (Minuartia glabra).
