The Piedmont / Central Appalachian mixed oak/heath forest occurs on gentle, low-elevation terrain and is characterized by deciduous heath shrubs under a variably mixed oak canopy.  In this stand, dense black huckleberry (Gaylussacia baccata) is the dominant shrub under chestnut oak (Quercus montana) and black oak (Quercus velutina).  Near Zion Crossroads, Louisa County.
