Central Appalachian Northern Red Oak Forest – CEGL008506

Central Appalachian Northern Red Oak Forests are similar to those further south but lack Southern Appalachian components such as galax (Galax urceolata), flame azalea (Rhododendron calendulaceum), and southern mountain cranberry (Vaccinium erythrocarpum).  This stand is near the summit of Great North Mountain, north of Elliott Knob, in Augusta County.  North River Ranger District, George Washington & Jefferson National Forests.
