Southern Appalachian Northern Red Oak Forest (Evergreen Shrub Type) – CEGL007299

Outliers of the Evergreen Shrub Type of Southern Appalachian Northern Red Oak Forest occur in the Apple Orchard Mountain - Thunder Ridge area of the Northern Blue Ridge in Botetourt and Bedford Counties.  These stands have dense shrub layers of Catawba rhododendron (Rhododendron catawbiense).  Thunder Ridge Overlook, Blue Ridge Parkway.
