In the Ridge and Valley province of southwest Virginia, Southern Appalachian Northern Hardwood Forests occur in scattered locations on the higher ridges.  Near Low Gap, in saddle between Clinch Mountain and Brumley Mountain, Washington County; Hidden Valley State Wildlife Management Area.
