Appalachian white snakeroot (Ageratina altissima var. roanensis) occurs in Virginia only at the higher elevation of the Southern Blue Ridge, where it is one of the most characteristic and abundant herbs in northern hardwood forests.  Whitetop Mountain, Grayson County, Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, George Washington & Jefferson National Forests.
