Piedmont / Central Appalachian Mafic / Calcareous Cliff – CEGL006479

An exposed cliff of red Triassic siltstone along the Potomac River at Red Rock Overlook Regional Park in Loudoun County.  Wild hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens, flowering at top) is a common shrub on the cliff-face.
